An introduction to microneedling

Work with your skin’s
renewal process.

Microneedling uses fine needles to create small, controlled punctures in the skin. The resulting repair response supports collagen production. Refine offers SkinPen and Toskani Topical options and the PRP-based Vampire Facial. The treatment plan is selected around your skin, goals, and provider assessment.

01Acne scars

Discuss the scars left after acne has healed. Different scar types respond differently, so assessment comes before choosing a treatment.

02Uneven texture

Talk about areas that look or feel less smooth and the change you would like to see. Your provider can explain realistic options.

03Fine lines

Explore whether microneedling is a suitable option for selected lines. Treatment goals should reflect your skin, rather than a promise to erase every line.

These are conventional microneedling options—not radiofrequency microneedling. RF adds heat and has a different risk profile. Read safety information.

SkinPen®

Controlled, professional microneedling without radiofrequency energy.

FDA-cleared SkinPen systems are indicated to improve the appearance of facial acne scars in adults age 22 and older across all Fitzpatrick skin types. Current labeling also includes neck wrinkles for selected skin types. Your consultation determines whether the treatment and area are appropriate for you.

Toskani Topical

A professional topical option considered within a customized microneedling protocol.

Toskani offers professional topical solutions that can be selected according to skin type, skin condition, and treatment goals. At Refine, your provider will explain which Toskani formulation is proposed, how it is used, and whether it is appropriate for your skin before treatment.

Vampire Facial · PRP

Microneedling paired with platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood.

This combination is considered for selected skin concerns. Ask how PRP is collected, prepared, and applied; which microneedling device is used; and what evidence, downtime, risks, and alternatives apply to your plan. PRP is a separate component, not a SkinPen or Toskani product.

  1. 01

    Begin with the full picture.

Discuss your skin concerns, previous procedures, health history, and daily routine. Bring questions about expected improvement and alternatives.

  2. 02

    Understand your selected option.

Review whether SkinPen, a Toskani Topical protocol, or the PRP-based Vampire Facial is proposed, along with the device, preparation, treatment area, comfort measures, planned sessions, cost, and possible effects.

  3. 03

    Plan for care at home.

Request written aftercare instructions, a review timeline, and a contact for concerns. Know when to resume makeup, exercise, and your usual skin-care products.

A gradual process

Give renewal
room to happen.

Early recovery and longer-term changes happen on different timelines. Your plan should account for both.

01

Immediately afterward

Skin may appear red or darker than usual and feel warm, tight, or tender. Pinpoint bleeding can occur.

02

Over the following days

Dryness, swelling, or peeling may occur as the skin settles. Follow your provider’s instructions and avoid picking or scrubbing the area.

03

As results develop

Changes appear gradually over weeks to months. A series may be recommended; reassessment helps guide the next step.

An informed decision

Thoughtful treatment
starts with safety.

Discuss your health and skin history

Report active acne or infection, cold sores, poor healing, raised scars, immune conditions, medications, blood or platelet conditions, and known product sensitivities. Discuss blood collection and PRP-specific suitability if considering Vampire Facial. Your provider may recommend postponing treatment or another approach.

Know the possible effects

Microneedling can cause irritation, bruising, bleeding, and pigment changes. Infection and cold-sore flare-ups can also occur. Review the risks, any PRP collection or application, the exact Toskani topical when applicable, and aftercare instructions for your treatment.

Use only topical and aftercare products recommended for your treatment. The FDA has not authorized microneedling devices to deliver cosmetics, topical medicines, vitamins, or PRP into the skin; ask your provider to explain how any Toskani topical is used within your plan.

Read the FDA’s microneedling information. RF treatments add energy and require a separate discussion of benefits and risks.

Before you begin

Your questions.
A clearer plan.

Ask our team
Is microneedling the same as RF microneedling?

No. Conventional microneedling creates small punctures; RF microneedling also delivers energy that heats tissue. Ask which treatment is proposed. The FDA has reported serious complications with certain RF uses, including burns, scarring, fat loss, and nerve damage. Read the RF safety communication.

How many sessions will I need?

Your skin concerns and response determine the plan. Ask whether a series is recommended, how appointments would be spaced, and when to reassess before committing to further treatment.

When can I expect to see a change?

Improvement is gradual as the skin responds. Some changes may be noticeable within weeks, while fuller results can take months. No specific outcome or timeline is guaranteed.

Can microneedling suit different skin tones?

Microneedling may be an option across skin tones, but individual assessment is essential. Discuss your history of pigmentation changes and healing, along with your provider’s experience treating skin like yours.

How much does microneedling cost?

Ask for a quote covering your treatment area, recommended sessions, and any aftercare or follow-up fees. Call 817-379-9397 with pricing questions.

How does it compare with laser or light treatments?

Microneedling creates controlled punctures. HALO uses fractional laser energy, while BBL uses pulsed light for selected color concerns. Your provider can compare the options for your goals, skin, and recovery preferences.
